Target Antimicrobial Guide

Product Description

"This is an extremely handy reference guide that will get frequent use in any practice where dogs and cats are seen. With its handy color-coding and logical layout, it provides what you need when you need it in a compact form that won’t eat up the extremely valuable counter-space in your practice pharmacy. A definite must for veterinarians and veterinary technicians alike.

After the introduction, the book is divided into three sections: location of infection, antimicrobials and the formulary. Each section is color-coded on the outside edge of the pages to make it easy to find the area of the book that you want to access. Then each area uses color-coding in tables and charts to offer information “at a glance”.

The first section, “Location of Infection,” contains charts displaying in an easy to understand format a variety of infections in different locations of the body. These charts note the most likely pathogens and the percent chance that each one is the causative agent in an infection in a specific area. Then each pathogen is cross-referenced with an antimicrobial drug and the probability of susceptibility to that antimicrobial of each of the pathogens, the dosing options and the relative costs of treating with said drug are all noted. Each page also clearly identifies via a picture of a dog or a cat at the top corner of the page which species the information on that chart is relevant to.

The second section, “Antimicrobials,” covers more detailed information about the efficacy of each of the 24 antimicrobials covered including in vitro efficacy against each pathogen, serum concentration and whether efficacy is time or dose dependant. This section again uses color-coded charts to provide information in an easy-to-understand manner. Plus, it uses the same color-coding from the first section to note efficacy against each pathogen listed.

The third section is the formulary and contains all that you would expect as such: dosing, routes of administration, contraindication, toxicity and pharmacology as well as the different formulations and brand names for each drug."
