Amiodarone hydrochloride (Cordarone) is used to treat certain types of irregular heartbeats. It is mainly used in dogs with dilated cardiomyopathy and atrial fibrilation.
This medication is used to treat certain types of serious (possibly fatal) irregular heartbeat (such as persistent ventricular fibrillation/tachycardia). It is used to restore normal heart rhythm and maintain a regular, steady heartbeat. Amiodarone is known as an anti-arrhythmic drug. It works by blocking certain electrical signals in the heart that can cause an irregular heartbeat.
Recommended dose rate is 16.0 mg/kg as a loading dose, followed by 5.0 - 9.0 mg/kg maintenance dose once daily. Always follow your Vet's direction.
Possible Side Effects
include anaphylaxis, bradycardia, increased ALT and AST,hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism and in very rare cases pulmonary interstitial fibrosis.
